8 tips for a successful brand photography shoot in Hampshire & Dorset
Taking the plunge for your first brand photography shoot in Hampshire & Dorset can be exciting and nerve-wracking all at the same time. So here I’m going to give you some tips on how to prepare for your brand photography shoot so you get exactly what you need. Preparation is key and discussing with your photographer your vision is essential for a great shoot.
It’s super important to develop a strong brand, so first, jot down what your brand values and aesthetic is. Think about the colours you use in your branding and the tone. Is your brand bright and colourful or is it more muted tones? There’s a great book to help you work this out if you’re stuck that I highly recommend reading called Brand Brilliance by Fiona Humberstone
Brand Photography Shoot Location in Hampshire & Dorset - So I mentioned the importance of a developing strong brand and this needs to be incorporated into the location you choose. What location best shows what you do? Do you have a studio or home office, or do you need to represent a certain lifestyle for what you do? Think about what will grab your client's attention and allow them an insight into your world. For more about locations check out my blog The Best Locations For Your Brand Photography Shoot
Your Brand Vision - One way of putting your ideas together, or to get inspiration, is to start a Pinterest mood board. Get together images that reflect your brand colours, lifestyle and aesthetics. You can then share them with your photographer so they get a really clear idea of where you’re coming from. Here are some of my Pinterest boards to help you get started.
Map it out! - Where are you going to use your amazing new brand photography shots? Write out all the pages on your website where you will need images. What do you need them to cover? Really personalise your website so your clients can connect with you. From this, you can start a shot list. Just keep it brief, like ‘picture of me working on laptop’. This helps to keep the shoot on track and ensure you don’t miss any important shots. There’s nothing worse than getting the inspiration after the shoot has finished!
Text on top - How will you use your brand photography images? When you use your images it’s great to get the most out of them by allowing for negative space. I like to take shots with the subject to one side against a neutral backdrop so they may be used for text overlays.
5. Technical issues? - if you’re not into all the tech stuff when it comes to understanding how to use your images, don’t worry! I’m always happy to help with the resizing of images, in fact, I make sure you have two resolutions to download in your brand photography shoot gallery. One for web use and a higher resolution for printed materials. I also make sure I take lots of images in different formats so you get similar shots for portrait and landscape use. 6. Dress rehearsal - if you’re planning on some outfit changes have a little run-through before your brand photography shoot. Make sure you're confident with what you wear. Take a few selfies and check yourself out. Feel good? Then put your outfits ready for shoot day and if you’re outdoors make sure you have easy changes that don’t require stripping off in public!
7. Social climber - sketch out the next 6 months of social media content. What topics do you want to cover? Make a little list of shots that will help you post more consistently and be a social climber.
8. Value for money - Investing in yourself and your business is the most important tip I can give you.
