Bournemouth Brand Photography shoot with textile designer Rosalyn Chivers
When I got an email from Rosalyn about working together I jumped straight onto her Instagram and was completely blown away by her textile designs. To say I was excited to work with her is an understatement. If there’s one thing I love, it's textiles. I have quite a collection from my many trips to India all around my home, so the chance to see a true artist at work was a dream job for me.
From our initial discovery call, I knew we’d hit off and were on the same wavelength for her brand photography shoot.
Rosalyn is incredibly talented and her work can be found in both private and commercial interiors, including global high-end hotel groups, luxury yacht interiors, spa interiors, private residences and more.
The Brief - Bournemouth Brand Photography
As with many of my clients, Rosalyn wasn’t keen on having her picture taken. But her agent really needed some brand photography portraits to show to her clients to help tell the story behind the designs. So she briefed me on her needs for the brand photography shoot.
Rosalyn was keen to keep some of the mystery about how she works and keep the focus on the textiles and textures that inspire her. Keeping in mind that she also wanted some black and white images that captured her brand aesthetic.
We worked on a mood board to build a vision for the style of shots she likes. This really helps me to understand the direction of the brand photography shoot.
The Shoot - Bournemouth Headshots Photography
Our Bournemouth brand photography shoot took place in Rosalyn’s home studio, which is filled with creative inspiration. The highlight for me was her design journals. Just beautiful pages of drawings, notes and fabrics that would make an amazing coffee table book.
Throughout the shoot, we chatted about her amazing work and her love of colour and texture. Rosalyn has a great interest in the culture of embroidery and embroidery techniques from different countries, which she brings into her designs.
To keep the mystery I shot a mix of portraits and close-ups of her working with some of the materials. I also went with an abstract idea of blurring Rosalyn walking past one of her textiles we used as a backdrop, which worked really well.
‘’I love the photos, thank you! They are perfect and there’s such a huge choice. Honestly, they’re great!’’ - Rosalyn
The Results - Bournemouth Headshots Photography
As soon as I got home I just had to get the images uploaded to the Mac to get a good look at them. Whenever possible I like to get a few images straight back to the client so they can have a sneak peek. I knew I had captured something special with Rosalyn, I think they came out really beautiful.
Part of my editing process is to make sure my clients have a range of image sizes and for this shoot also some black and white. These are then uploaded to a private gallery. They can then spend time deciding on their favourites. There are usually 300 plus images to choose from, so the gallery is there for months to come if my clients need a few extra downloads.
Rosalyn was very happy with the results, in fact, she loved them. It makes me really proud of my work when I get such a lovely reaction, especially when the client is camera shy. I know I’ve done my job well.
I worked with Alison recently on a series of photos for my brand. We had a wonderful day and Alison is highly skilled professional to work with. I’m thrilled with the final photos and they are really good representation of the brand. - Rosalyn
As a Bournemouth brand photographer, it’s fantastic connecting with other local women in business. I think we have a special bond through our creativity.
