Brand Photographer in Southampton with artist Kate Watkins
Working with Kate was meant to be, we’d never met before, but after a few emails to arrange her personal brand shoot in Southampton it turned out that we actually live on the same road!
Kate has been creating her beautiful art prints for 18 years. Her work features prints made using collagraph, silkscreen, relief, intaglio and etching techniques. And I couldn’t wait to get that behind-the-scenes glimpse into her studio and work processes.
The Brief - Southampton Brand Photography Shoot
Kate was looking to update her website with images that would help to tell her brand story. It was important that her customers could build that connection between the finished art pieces and the process that went into hand-making them. So alongside the portraits, she would need, the brief was to capture her in her element working at the screen printers and etching press.
The Shoot - Brand Photographer in Southampton art studio
My first aim was to put Kate at ease, she hates having her picture taken! So we started to go over what we needed to cover with the shot list Kate had put together. This was a great help to keep us focused and to ensure we captured everything she needed.
After a quick tour of the studio and workrooms, it was time to get shooting. The building is amazing with the main gallery having huge windows, and the light was perfect.
I wanted to give Kate a lovely bright and light feel for her portrait images, these will be perfect for social media and the website. We also did lots of pictures of her work process, at the screen printer and etching press. These will tell her brand story, revealing the process behind the final images. This is what brand photography is all about, and that’s why I love doing it.
The Results - Brand Photographer in Southampton with artist Kate
I was so pleased with the results of Kate’s brand photography shoot in Southampton. I knew she was nervous, so it was very important for me to capture her looking happy and relaxed. Kate’s favourites were the ones where she’s not looking into the camera, but personally, I really love her smile, it’s so engaging.
As a Southampton brand photographer, it’s fantastic connecting with other creative women in business. I think we have a special bond through our creativity.
