How to get a story in the newspaper

How to get your story in the newspaper with personal brand photography

Opportunity knocks! But are you ready? I've been very lucky with my other business SugarMango to have had a call from magazines, blogs and even Saatchi Saatchi offering me some free PR. (I even had my own billboard for the Visa Christmas campaign, all for free.) What a great OPPORTUNITY for some free exposure to build my brand, but wait, they need high-quality images in the next 24 hours!!! EEEKKK what do you I do, grab my phone and take some dubious selfies and risk missing out on this great opportunity?!?

The answer is to be READY for any and every OPPORTUNITY that comes your way with a bank of professional images from a banging brand photoshoot, preferably with me!

How to get a story in the newspaper or magazines.

Just to prove my point here’s two of my lovely clients who have recently had some free PR because they were ready with the great images I took of them.

Jane @haberdasherdo just had a piece published in Dorset Biz News promoting her local business with a double-page spread. How did she do it? She sent in a press release about an award she was up for with some of the great images I captured on her brand photography shoot.

Because she packaged her story in a compelling way she got noticed. Journalists are always looking for interesting and engaging stories, so make sure that what you want them to cover would be compelling for their audience. Then, package your story for them in a way that makes their job easy.

Feedback from the editor of Dorset Biz News confirmed that having professional images with her press release clinched her space in his magazine. ‘‘ They were great pictures and the key reason why we used the story as one of our top three items’’ Said Andrew Diprose, Dorset Biz News Editor.

Danielle @thelittleflowertruck also got a magazine feature in The British Florists Association, and because she was ready with a great bank of images she got a double-page spread for free!
